Since 2010, I've approached performing arts production work with the training of a systems engineer. From stage management to design to technical direction, my work has supported projects of varying scope and complexity.
I've had the pleasure of working on projects with Goodspeed Musicals, SpeakEasy Stage Company, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, and North Shore Music Theatre, among many other theatre companies in New England. Favorite projects include stage managing Bad Habit Productions' Gross Indecency (IRNE award - Best Fringe Production), technical direction for Company One Theatre's The Flick (Elliot Norton awards - Outstanding Design, Outstanding Production), and supporting production of the debut of Sally Taylor's Consenses Festival on Martha's Vineyard in 2014.
Recent technical direction projects include Macbeth on Boston Common for Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, and an interim role in 2022-23 with the theatre arts program at Merrimack College, for academic productions of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged], The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Wolves, and The Addams Family.
Select design credits include scenic for Seussical, Jr., The Goat...or, Who is Sylvia? ("Parker's set is incredible" - MetroBoston), and Six Degrees of Separation; lighting for Mean Girls HS Version, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Urinetown ("...it shines under the highlight of the production: Kevin Deane Parker’s lighting design." -ArtsImpulse) .
I've supervised and taught student technicians at the middle school, high school, and college level: with Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Merrimack College, Northeastern University, Concord Academy, and Burlington, Wilmington, Melrose, and Wakefield Public Schools. Teaching technology and engineering through the access point of creative production is a major focus of my educational work.
While completing my BS in industrial engineering at Northeastern University, I studied theatre design and production with Justin Townsend, Frances Nelson McSherry, and Eric John Kelley. I also hold an M.Ed. from Salem State University. During the academic year, I teach STEAM courses at Pingree School, an independent day school in South Hamilton, MA, and lecture in the College of Engineering at Northeastern.
